How many students have cleared national and state competitive examinations such as NET, SLET, GATE, Civil Services, Defense Services, etc.
There is no mechanism to know the exact number of such students but a few of them have qualified the NET/ SLET exam.

Teaching methods adopted to improve student learning:

  • Lecture methods, interactive method, group discussions among students.
  • Question and answering session.
  • Twice a week, ask any students to prepare a topic and give a presentation in the class.
  • The students are encouraged to take weekly tests.
  • To develop writing skill students are encouraged to write poems, short stories and articles.

Participation in Institutional Social Responsibility (ISR) and extension activities:
Students generally participate in college lectures, debates, quiz programmes in large numbers. They attend awareness programmes such as blood donation camps and donate enthusiastically. Joining in NSS, they take part in Red Ribbon Club.

  • Strengths:
    1. Good relation among the students and teachers.
    2. Cooperative attitude among the students are admirable.
    3. Good understanding and coordination among the teachers.
    4. Enthusiasm of the students to attend classes.
  • Weaknesses:
    1. Paucity of teaching faculty.
    2. Journals and reference books are not adequate.
  • Opportunities:
    1. Separate classrooms for Honours courses are available.
    2. Language Laboratory is there and we should make proper use of it for learning the foreign language.
  • Challenges:
    1. To give them knowledge beyond the syllabus and encourage in Interdisciplinary learning.
    2. To develop their acumen in Communicative English as most of them are from Bengali background.
  • Future Plans:
    1. Arranging Departmental seminar about “Feminism in Diaspora”
    2. Publication of Departmental Journal.
    3. To avail the smart class room facility for the students.
    4. To organize a workshop on Communicative English.
    5. To do a minor research project.
    6. To encourage the students to engage themselves more and more in spoken English trainings and classes.
